What is your favorite math room transformation? Hands down, my favorite is my Glow Day Transformation. If I could only do one per year, it would be this one! This day feels more like a party and less of an academic block, however, they are engaged in math the entire time!

For my daughter’s 10th birthday, she wanted a glow party. So it was so easy to have a glow transformation in my classroom because I already had the black lights and neon decor that I could reuse. You can learn more about my room transformations on a budget in my blog post - Transforming on a Budget, Teacher Style!

My Glow Day Transformation covers place value, addition, and subtraction with word problems. So students are working on these math skills the whole time, they are just in a transformed room, with black lights instead of regular lights and are using highlighters instead of pencils. Take a look into our fun!

In this station students get to bowl with light up pins. The bottom of the pins have numbers on them that students work with in this center. I created the “lane” with black butcher paper and neon tape.

This packet is for morning work and then early finishers when students finish any of the centers early. They use their highlighter for the word search, the maze, coloring, and answering any of the problems.

At this station students are practicing a variety of skills - place value, expanded form, rounding, addition, and subtraction - while playing Jenga. The Jenga blocks just have neon tape on the ends to make it fit the theme. I put black butcher paper on the floor so when the blocks fall, they aren’t super loud off the desk or table.

My students love this one because they love tic-tac-toe and it was so easy to set up! Black butcher paper with neon tape to create the boards. I do three game boards on the paper so there are multiple games going at a time in this center, each with different problems. Students then solve word problems for addition and subtraction. Once they get them correct they get to put their X or O.

Now that you see what I do for my Glow Day and how it can be an easy blast, what else is holding you back? If you aren't sure WHY you should do a room transformation, check out my blog post 3 Reasons for a Room Transformation.
